Betting
on Super Bowl Winners
All
of the odds that are listed below are based
upon Las Vegas odds that were posted August
26, 2004 and may differ from your favorite
Internet Sport Book Super Bowl odds, which
generally gives you even better odds. One
thing is certain though; the odds will undoubtedly
change between the time of this posting
and the day of the big show.
Oakland
Raiders
Raiders
(20:1)
In a single year the Raiders went from Super
Bowl runner up to bottom of the barrel and
a number 2 pick in the NFL draft. What happened?
While injuries and team turmoil ran abundantly
through the team, age also became a factor.
So what did Al Davis do to make me think
the Raider's odds at 20:1 might just deserve
a bet? First of all, when Kerry Collins
was signed this summer, they made the QB
spot one of the deepest positions on the
team. After Mr. Davis saw Rick Mirer starting
last year, you can understand why he did
it. A head coaching change was made as well
when Norv Turner promised Al he'd turn the
team around. Along with Collins, a massive
load of free agents signed. When I say massive
load I mean missive load. When Warren Sapp
and Ted Washington signed up for Oakland,
the team's weight went up almost 700 pounds.
These two Pro Bowlers should make opposing
offensives cringe and help the raiders back
to the top of the AFC. Rob Ryan, the new
Defensive Coordinator, reminds me of his
dad Buddy, a defensive genius and a winner.
The Raiders might be on the same plan as
the Patriots, just one year behind. See,
the Patriots have won 2 Super Bowls in the
last 3 years. But the middle year looked
a lot like Oakland's team last year. With
their down year in the past, the Raiders
could pull a Patriotic improvement and charge
back to a championship game. At 20:1 they're
worth a shot. (back

Other
Intriguing Prospects: The Seahawks
at 12:1, the Panthers at 15:1,
and the Steelers at 20:1 are also worth
recognizing. The Hawks are loaded at every
position and have shown a confidence that
makes them exciting. The Panthers at 15:1
went to the Super Bowl last year
and
almost beat the heroic Patriots. The Steelers
have 3 amazing wide receivers and Duce Staley
has looked great in the pre-season. He was
underused last year in Philly, and I'm sure
he's out to prove it. Add these three teams
to the list. Take a chance on one of the
teams in my elite eight and come out with
a little, or a lot of pocket cash!
