Heard It Here First
I'm
here to talk about six teams that are going
to disrupt the preseason rankings and surprise
the hell out of the big time teams and conferences
everywhere. Memphis, Wisconsin,
Kansas State, Auburn, Maryland
and Texas might not be on anybody's
top five lists, most won't even crack the
top 10, with one that won't even start out
the season in the top 25. But don't hesitate
to put your money on these six squads. Anyone
can tell you that Oklahoma, USC,
Miami, and FSU are going to
win games, but with spreads that stretch
over five touchdowns, where's the money
in that? Listen closely, and stack the odds
in your favor. Bet on these teams to win
and you won't catch yourself kicking your
TV off its stand because Oklahoma
didn't beat Texas A&M
by the 42 point spread.
(Rankings are from the Associated Press
as of September 2)

Memphis (Unranked)
I'm not here to tell you that Memphis is
going to break out of Conference USA and
bust down the doors into a National Championship,
but they're going to win a bunch of games,
and possibly climb their way up the AP and
into the top ten. There are many signs that
point to Memphis stepping up in a huge way,
and it all starts...

Auburn (17)
Auburn was ranked #1 last year in Sporting
News' pre-season poll. So that didn't turn
out so well. But this year they're underrated
at #17. These Tigers have two of the top
two senior running backs in the entire nation
with Carnell Cadillac Williams and Ronnie
Brown. Cadillac ran for 1,300 yards and
17 touchdowns last season. Many scouts have
him... (click

Kansas State (12)
In the last year the Wildcats have lost
14 starters, but they didn't loose Darren
Sproles, the 5'7" super back that ran
for 1,986 yards last year, stepping up big
when it counted most and rushing for 235
yards and receiving for 88 in their upset
of Oklahoma last year. Sproles has been
compared to Barry Sanders, can you get a
complement? Yes you can... (click

Wisconsin (21)
The Jim Sorgi to Lee Evans combo has graduated
and will no longer be a staple in the Badger
offense. But Anthony Davis will continue
to make his mark in the Wisconsin record
books. If Davis' load is too much to carry
he can turn to help from his backup Dwayne
Smith who just happened to rush for 850
yards last year, including a... (click

Texas (7)
I know what you're thinking, Texas isn't
much of a sleeper, and you're right, they
aren't, but I'm here to tell you they'll
beat Oklahoma this year. Last year shook
Oklahoma's invincibility tag and Texas is
about to cash in. The superstar that was
the face of Texas football, Roy Williams,
is now playing for the Detroit Lions. This
said, the Longhorns obviously... (click

Maryland (22)
The Terps have won at least ten games the
last three years. Don't bet for a second
that they'll stand pat at their pre-season
ranking of 22. Ralph Friedgen has his team
believing they can compete with any team
in the nation, and they can. Tailback Josh
Allen and receiver/return specialist Steve
Suter will lead Friedgens high-powered offense...
